EXTREMEGB.COM PRESS RELEASE
SAFETY AND THE SALTY SEA-DOG AS THE UK HOLIDAYS AT HOME IN 2008. Families holidaying in the UK instead of abroad in summer 2008 will be adding an extra member of the family to the passenger list - their trusty mutt - and that means a range of extra safety and comfort measures must come in to play. "Packing in the kids in the car is like managing a mobile zoo, and sometimes the pets are better behaved - but they do need a few special considerations, ranging from in-car security to holiday destination safety," said Ed Giles of ExtremeGB.com, the UK's leading online retailer of outdoor and extreme sports goods. "There is a massive range of safety and comfort goods available for any dogged adventurer - dog back packs, coats, shoes, leashes and harnesses, even foldaway food and water bowls, first aid kits and beacons to enable owners to keep an eye on their dogs at night and in poor weather or at sea. "A typical - and great - idea is the Ruffwear dog back pack which can help ease the burden on their master or mistress, priced from £44.99 to £85. "But for serious safety, and if they're a family who enjoys the water, then they'll probably want to take their salty old - or young - sea-dog with them. Now, dogs can swim, but they are as vulnerable to deep water and currents as humans are, so it's worth investing in a doggy life vest." The Baltic Standard and Professional Pet Buoyancy Aids come in sizes suitable for everything from a Chihuahua to a Great Dane, and as well as providing buoyancy in those dog-overboard moments also protects them from cold and heat. It is bright orange and fitted with lifting handles in case Rover decides the grass is greener on the other side of the Irish Sea and sets off doggy paddling for it. Prices are from £21.48 to £44.50 depending upon hound size. The Standard version is suitable for normal holiday excursion swims, while the Professional version is designed for use by rescue dogs and for dog training. RAPID MEDIA SYSTEMS PRESS RELEASE

THEME PARKS TO GET MERCEDES-BENZ-PROVEN VIDEO EXPERIENCE RECORDER. The same revolutionary on-board micro video recording system fitted to cars at Mercedes-Benz' automotive experience park is being made available to theme parks and tourist attractions worldwide. The first installation was at Warner Village Theme Parks' Helicopter Tour of Sea World in Surfers' Paradise, Queensland, Australia (WVTP), and is proving to be a significant financial success - with more than 100 there-and-then DVD purchases a day by people taking the tour and having the experience recorded. Warner Village Theme Parks has now ordered and installed a second system, to offer souvenir DVDs to every single participant of their "Animal Adventures" marine life interaction programmes. A mix of above and underwater cameras are used to record both seal and dolphin swimming experiences. As guests cannot use their own cameras, they do not have the opportunity to record their once-in-a-lifetime experience themselves. So a souvenir DVD, provided by the theme park as part of the cost of the overall package, greatly enhances the guests' experience and acts as a unique marketing tool for the company. "This is not a clunky video recording system that takes hours to edit and days to dispatch to buyers - the DVD is produced in minutes as the guest transits the exit area; it is fast, efficient, reliable and profitable - and, of course, what better advertisement is there for the attraction when guests show their friends and family their experience?" said Graham Horgan of Rapid Media Systems, which has created the package. "Our system is a unique automated process with minimal staff input. The pilot slots a small flash memory card into a micro video when the guests board the helicopter. It records their view and experience. When they land, the pilot hands over the Flash card and a fully edited DVD is provided within four minutes. "The equipment operator needs to do nothing more than insert the card in a PC, and then present the personalised DVD to the guest four minutes later. That's it. Operator time commitment is negligible." The system was created by Rapid Media Systems and puts an end to meters of wiring and duct-taped hardware, plus potentially unreliable recording, days of editing and dispatch days later. Each complete package costs from around £10,000 and pays for itself, on average, within 9 months. "Once installed, the raw materials cost around £1 ($2) per guest for a finished product that sells for anything up to £40 ($80). As you might imagine, the legendary efficiency, reliability and build quality associated with Mercedes-Benz meant that our equipment and product had to be discreet, fuss-free and 100% reliable, so it is a consistent revenue generator," said Graham Horgan of Rapid Media Systems. "The secret is in the software which allows each guest or an administrator to decide what they want on their DVD in advance. Templates are setup ahead of time to make the production process totally automatic. "Stock video clips, advertising, intros, datasheets, documents and any computer-based material can be automatically combined with the video footage captured during the day and the result is a fully-authored DVD which looks as though it's taken hours to produce but is actually delivered to the guest in a few minutes, including printing the DVD face in full colour. "The key to making this type of system commercially viable is a combination of professional-grade, high-quality onboard video hardware and a fully automated DVD production method, eliminating the need for specialist on-site personnel and time-consuming manual production methods usually required for this type of product." Rapid Media Systems is based in Dunsfold, Surrey. Its systems have been developed by racing driver and management consultant Graham Horgan, and John Chambers. John's professional experience encompasses IT networking, video production and motor racing. Ends

MOTOR WORLD PRESS RELEASE

MAJOR MOUTHFUL - BUT SUFFOLK COUNCIL WORKER'S MINI PRIZE IS NO WIND-UP. She gave them a mouthful over the phone, stomped round to the store to see if it was a wind-up - and then glowed the colour of the Mini she'd just won... It was then that Mid-Suffolk Council call centre worker Tammy Church, 32, from Stowmarket remembered she had actually bought a ticket at car accessory store Motor World in Wilks Way, Stowmarket, in a competition to win a new Mini Cooper. And this week she has taken delivery of her brand new Mini Cooper - and the verdict is "absolutely fantastic". "I don't know whether I was more embarrassed or more excited when I realised that new Mini was actually mine," said Tammy. "I was at work when my phone rang and it was somebody claiming to be from Motor World, sounding awfully like a friend of mine - and he said that he was ringing to say I'd won a Mini. "I was a bit rude to him - my friend is always winding me up - so I just said: ‘Won a car? Yeah, right...', then said I had no time to talk and hung up. "I was passing Motor World a bit later on and went in all stroppy and said that someone had phoned me claiming I'd won a car and I thought it was a wind-up. "But the guy behind the counter was almost as excited as me when I said who I was, because it was true." Motor World manager Daniel Rumbold said: "We were a bit perplexed when Mrs Church came in looking a little irritated, but we kept the smiles on - and after a few seconds we realised we really did have the winner in front of us. "We're a small Motor World store, only three staff, so this was a really big day for us as well." Tammy added: "Once I'd got over the embarrassment I was just so excited - I have never, ever, won anything, I don't know anybody has ever won anything, and I'd completely forgotten I'd bought the ticket because it was only a small part of the cost of a Christmas shopping spree in the store." Tammy and her husband George, an electrical engineer, own a Peugeot 206 - but as now the Mini has arrived they're going to sell the 206. "It's not just winning the Mini, it's the difference the proceeds of the sale of the Peugeot can make to us as well - a great Christmas, a great holiday or some special treats," said Tammy. Tammy's year started badly when she was made redundant, but she soon found a job with the Mid-Suffolk Council working in its contact centre. The arrival of the Mini is another big boost. "You get so many calls and emails and letters from people these days saying you've won something only to find out that there's a catch, which explained my initial suspicion - but it was the biggest and most pleasant of surprises to find that I really have won a new Mini Cooper from Motor World. Motor World is the UK's largest independent car spares and accessories chain with 236 stores nationwide. Ends.

SAS DANIELS SOLICITORS PRESS RELEASE MOBILE PHONE DIVORCE DISPUTES GROW. Offices in Stockport, Macclesfield, Congleton, Bramhall and Chester.
A leading Cheshire divorce lawyer says that three-quarters of the marital dispute cases they're currently handling involve a mobile phone playing a part in revealing or betraying infidelity. Shelley Chesworth of SAS Daniels solicitors - with offices in Stockport, Macclesfield, Congleton, Bramhall and Chester - says 75% of current actions have been sparked by the discovery of text messages, photos or even videos stored on a phone, or a sudden change in a spouse's mobile phone usage habits. But she also says that the number of divorces handled by the firm involving mobile phones has doubled in the past three years. "The obvious sign is somebody getting a second mobile phone - sometimes it's utterly innocent, but if that phone never seems to leave their side, then there's maybe grounds for suspicion," said Shelley Chesworth. "Secretive or furtive usage is another clue - standing at the end of the garden texting, or maybe sitting outside in the car talking. But the main giveaway is undoubtedly the undeleted text, or stored photo or video. "Many people are caught out because they make the mistake of thinking their phone is forbidden territory, but if a spouse is suspicious, then these days they will make a beeline for either the PC or the mobile phone. "If they do manage to get their hands on a phone, and it is locked or security coded, then that is likely to raise suspicion even further. "If they manage to get into it, then it takes seconds to access texts, photos or videos. By the nature of an affair, texts, photos or videos are usually either very romantic or very lurid in tone and content. "There is little to confuse a business or family text or picture with one that is associated with a lover or an affair. "However, there are some much more hi-tech considerations: somebody may think they have deleted texts, photos or videos, but, at one end of the scale, it is fairly easy to analyse usage from a bill, but it is also possible for specialists to recover deleted material - and there is also the possibility of establishing somebody's whereabouts when calls were made or texts sent or received because the networks can record the locations of mobile phones when they are in use. "If we are in a particularly difficult dispute, we might even apply to the courts for mobile phone bills and records, or even request a mobile phone is handed to us for investigative purposes." Ends

FORMULA ONE'S FIERY RACE SUIT TESTS.

BTTG MOTORSPORT CLOTHING TESTING PRESS RELEASE FORMULA ONE'S FIERY RACE SUIT TESTS. Formula 1, the most glamorous sport in the world, is halfway through its season - but some of the most fearless sportsmen on the planet will have a team of scientists on the outskirts of Manchester, England, to thank for their safety. BTTG Fire Technology Services (FTS), based in the UK near Manchester, tests the component materials for the race suits that some of the world's leading race drivers rely upon. "Thankfully, life-threatening fires are extremely rare, but we do of course see the occasional pit-lane fuel spillage that can cause something of a blaze - so while the sport is massively more safe then even just a few years ago, the drivers can rest assured that if there is a fire, then the tests we carry out mean their suits will give them and their rescuers valuable extra seconds," said Neil Sorensen, Executive Director of BTTG FTS. "Manufacturers of race suits send them to us for testing, and we are approved by the governing body of motorsport - the FIA - to carry out the tests to ensure race suits meet FIA regulation 8856. "This involves three key tests: measurement of heat transfer, flammability and seam strength." The first test is to measure convective heat transfer - how much and how fast heat is transmitted through the material. This test produces 80kW per square metre of heat energy and involves securing the material over a large Bunsen burner flame and timing how long it takes for the temperature on the opposite side to that exposed to the flame to rise by 24 degrees C, which equates to a burn injury. The minimum required standard is 11 seconds. The second test involves a small flame from a gas burner being applied to the material. Should it ignite, it must stay lit for no more than two seconds after removal of the gas burner. The third test is a physical test measuring the tensile strength of seams used in the race suits. The seam is held at a constant force until it ruptures - the load it is required to resist is 300Newtons. BTTG has two long-established fire testing laboratories in the UK, both operating as BTTG FTS, one near Manchester, the other in Leeds. The Manchester laboratory specialises in the testing of materials and clothing/gloves intended to be used as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The Leeds laboratory specialises in the testing of materials and end-products for the furnishings sector (corporate, transport, health services and domestic) and for the construction products and marine equipment sectors. Both laboratories have most of their tests accredited to the quality standard EN ISO/IEC 17025 and work with BTTG Certification Services by providing accredited test data to support product certification to the European Directives for Personal Protective Equipment, Marine Equipment and Construction Products. WEST MIDLANDS BUSINESSES DRIVE ENVIRONMENTAL FIRST FOR NORTHAMPTONSHIRE HOMES.

ROOF SPACE SYSTEMS/ COPAL GROUP ROOFING CONTRACTORS PRESS RELEASE WEST MIDLANDS BUSINESSES DRIVE ENVIRONMENTAL FIRST FOR NORTHAMPTONSHIRE HOMES. Roof Space Systems, one of the country's leading roofing contractors, will change the way homes are built with the installation of a first-in-the-UK roofing process at a site in Crick, Northamptonshire. A residential development under construction by Birmingham-based regional developer Heritage Grange will benefit from an environmentally advantageous roofing process commonplace across Europe, but completely new to the UK. The process, using pre-fabricated Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), cuts time spent on making a unit watertight by around two-thirds - but at the same cost, and with massive insulation advantages. "In the case of this development, we will make the units in question watertight in less than a week-and-a-half, whereas established processes would take four weeks," said Kevin Sherlock, Managing Director of Roof Space Systems, which is based in Stratford-upon-Avon. "While it may be new to the UK, it is completely tried, tested and trusted across Europe, where it has proved massively popular for the past 20 years. However, until recent legislation it is a process that has been overlooked in the UK - and we now find ourselves in pole position to address a fast-growing demand. "In a nutshell, we deliver SIPs panels direct to new-build home sites, pre-cut to length, all pre-determined by a take-off from drawings supplied by the builder using auto-cad. They are then installed by our own skilled labour, and also provides a faster method of making a house waterproof in adverse conditions. "In November 2006 the UK government published its Planning Policy Statement 3 (PPS3) which essentially said it would encourage and drive a code for sustainable homes, promoting design initiatives aimed at building homes with a zero carbon footprint. Roof Space Systems is pivotal to this type of development. "To address heat insulation requirements and regulations, the SIP panels incorporate thermal insulation, between two layers of OSB grade 3 boards. They offer the simplest way to comply with part L of the new building regulations, requiring a U-value of 0.25 for elemental (airtight) roofs. "But here's the real bonus on the space front: the average house contains 35% by volume of cold roof space, but SIPS panels allow this to be converted to warm, useable living space. Such airtight roofs save something like 600kwh per heating season per house and 100kg-plus of CO2 emissions over conventional roofs," said Kevin. Roof Space Systems is part of the Copal Group. Founded in Warrington, Cheshire in 1996, Copal Group is now headquartered in Leigh, Lancashire. It has since expanded beyond its North West heartland and now has operating branches covering the East & West Midlands, northern Home Counties, Yorkshire and Scotland giving a truly national coverage. Copal's varied services range from traditional roof coverings including natural and artificial slating, clay and concrete pantiles, clay and concrete plain tiles and all associated sheet leadwork and flashings to more modern innovative single ply systems, aluminium flashings, Mastic asphalting and high performance built-up felt systems, architectural, aluminium fall arrest solutions. As members of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors Copal's customers can rest assured that all installations meet the highest possible standards. COMPENSATION CULTURE? NOT IN THE NORTH WEST: NEARLY 70 % OF PEOPLE ADMIT TO BEING ‘CLUELESS' ABOUT HOW TO MAKE A CLAIM. SAS Daniels: offices in Stockport, Macclesfield, Congleton, Bramhall and Chester.
US-style compensation culture is far from alive and kicking in the North West of England, according to Cheshire's biggest law firm. SAS Daniels LLP, which operates http://www.accidentcompensationspecialists.co.uk/, says research suggests 68% of accident victims with a valid claim for compensation would know either "not very much", or "nothing at all" about how to make a compensation claim for personal injury, while 61% believe they couldn't afford a claim. But only 55% would know how or where to go to make a claim for death or injury caused to innocent members of the public as they have gone about their daily business on our roads, in the workplace, or in schools and hospitals. There were 710,000 such accidents in the UK in the past year. "In investigating this area, we combined our own anecdotal research with that of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) of which we are members, and the bottom line is that only 31% of people would go to a non-law firm based compensation company, while 51% would go directly to a personal injury lawyer," said Nicola Winslett, Partner, SAS Daniels LLP. "But 74% of people said they would take their employer to court if they suffered personal injury at work which they felt to be the employer's fault." Accident compensation claims enquiries to http://www.accidentcompensationspecialists.co.uk/ go directly to SAS Daniels LLP solicitors' offices in Stockport, Macclesfield, Congleton, Bramhall or Chester without involving a broker or mediator. "Anecdotally, and in our experience, a common reason for not making a claim is that somebody ‘didn't want to make a fuss', but, alarmingly, many were frightened of some sort of backlash from employers or people who had inflicted criminal injuries. "Some of those we spoke to had the perception that they would have to find considerable fees up front, and so decided to soldier on with physical, mental or emotional injury to contend with. "In the vast majority of cases it is the responsible party's insurance companies who pay compensation, and as costs are paid on top of compensation there is never a charge to the claimant providing they fully co-operate with us throughout the claims process. "If an employer dismissed an employee who was making a claim against them, then that might give raise to a further possible claim against that employer. "If the claim is a result of a criminal injury, then the person who inflicted the injuries need never know the victim is making a claim. If you have been the victim of an unprovoked criminal assault, you may be entitled to compensation through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme (CICA)." Claims can be made up to three years after an accident, while the courts do have discretion to extend that period. Claims can also be made for injuries suffered abroad. Ends
